I have never been to Virginia, but I do have a friend from there, and while she loves her home state more than Texas, she says jobs are hard to come by there. The economy has not hit the Dallas area as hard, at least not yet. Also, there is a movie studio in Irving (halfway between Dallas and Fort Worth) where Robocop and JFK were filmed. There are plenty of acting and modeling schools in the area. There are a lot of lakes in the area, and Galveston is about a 6 hour drive. Good luck with your decision!
References :
Have lived in the Dallas/Fort Worth area all of my life

Dallas, Texas is your best bet. It's very diverse here. Lots to see, especially 6th floor musuem. Just drive 2 hours and a half to the beach in Galveston near Houston.
