Where to move: Dallas, TX or Herndon, Virginia?

March 22010

We’ve lived in Miami, FL for over 25 years and have had our 5 kids here, but we are now ready for a change of scenery. I have a friend that moved to Virginia and my husband had a friend that moved to Texas. They’re both bidding for us to move to their neck of the woods (sending us job listings and home rental info). We don’t know which State is better or if we should choose an entirely different State! I just know that we do want water nearby (sea, lakes or rivers), we want the changes in seasons and beautiful landscapes.
My daughter wants to be an actress, so somewhere that she can develop her skills while still in high school.
I hope y’all can help me get an idea of where to move my family.
Thanks.

I have never been to Virginia, but I do have a friend from there, and while she loves her home state more than Texas, she says jobs are hard to come by there. The economy has not hit the Dallas area as hard, at least not yet. Also, there is a movie studio in Irving (halfway between Dallas and Fort Worth) where Robocop and JFK were filmed. There are plenty of acting and modeling schools in the area. There are a lot of lakes in the area, and Galveston is about a 6 hour drive. Good luck with your decision!

Dallas, Texas is your best bet. It’s very diverse here. Lots to see, especially 6th floor musuem. Just drive 2 hours and a half to the beach in Galveston near Houston.
