In New York State, do real estate agents collect fees on rental property listings?

October 172010

I’m wondering if my landlord had to pay a fee to the listing agent who showed us the home we now rent. If so, how is that fee determined? Is it split between agents?

Some do. Each agent or owner can decide what they want to do. In many NYC units, the tenant pays the agent directly.
In some upstate cities the agent might only make a small amount for renting a place for the owner.

The Realtor gets 7 percent of what you paid for your house.(paying) So, I don’t think your landlord had too, but if you had a Realtor show you the property, then he/she will get payed.
