Real estate – difference between home styles?

October 312010

My realtor subscribed me to some automated email subscription that emails me new listings in the area and I am a bit confused with all of the home styles, would be nice if I could quickly tell the difference between them but even research online hasn’t really gotten me anywhere. I’ve listed out all of the ones I’ve seen so far, some of them are obvious to me (family, low-rise, townhouse) but others I have no idea what these styles are (brownstone, cape, garden). Is there some reference guide online that will show me all the different styles? I live in Boston but certainly some or most of these are region independent? Thanks!

Why when you search for Genuine Work from home opportunities, do bogus ones come up?

October 282010

I like social networking. So facebook, yahoo answers and one or two forums where I share my special interests, are the places I hang out.

However, because I have special interests and skills, I thought that just maybe there would be a genuine way you could sell those skills online.

So anyone got any ideas on how to cut out the none genuine ones from coming up in the search networks listings?

It’s an annoyance if you are looking for genuine work from home opportunities if what comes up are pages of gambling schemes.

If they seem too good to be true – they are

How can I find a rental home in a rural area?

October 282010

I currently live in a small apartment in a big city. I’ve just graduated from college, and I have been conducting a job search. I’ve been centering my search around my home state in the Midwest, and the best prospects that I have (as a teacher) are in the more rural areas. Since I’m a young professional, just out of college, I obviously can’t afford to put a down payment on a home, so I need to rent (maybe a house, a condo, or a good-sized apartment). But it’s very difficult to find listings for these rural areas. Any suggestions on how I may go about my search? Thanks.

They still do it the old fashioned way, with a flyer on the bulletin board at the local market.

Where can I find listings for condo, townhouse or home rentals?

October 282010

I am currently renting an apartment and my lease is up in July. Because of the economy and the rate of foreclosures, I hear that a lot of people (and banks/real estate agencies and associations) are leasing or renting condos, homes and townhouses. I am not looking for a vacation rental; I am actually looking to rent more long term, a minimum of one year. Should I be contacting a real estate agent and will they charge me for the search? How can I find these listings?

Go to craigslist and select your area. Then click on housing. That is a great place to start. Many homeowners use that site. I’m one of them.

Word or mouth or visiting the potential location is another great way to let people know that you are looking for a new place.

What is a land contract in Detroit,MI? What is the property tax rate is it different for a new ownerofproperty?

October 282010

I see real estate listings in Detroit,MI with something about land contracts? What are they? Is it true in Detroit that you can buy a house and pay more for the property taxes than your mortgage would be? I saw a home in Detroit for $15000 with home warranty. Here in CT you can’t buy a home in the North End of Hartford,CT even if it is burned out crack house in Gangland.

"Land Contract" is a seller financing term. The seller retains ownership until the last payment is made.

Where can I go to find foreclosed homes in my area without having to pay a membership fee to a website?

October 262010

I am looking for foreclosed homes in my area because they are much cheaper than other homes. However, whenever I try and find listings in my area, all I get are vague ideas, and in order to get the details, I have to pay a membership to the website I found it on. Is there anywhere I can go (either on line or in person) to get foreclosed home listings that I don’t have to pay for?

The information is public record, so if you go down to your County Recorder’s office you should be able to obtain a list of homes that recently had a Trustee’s Deed filed on them (this is the foreclosure document)

Most title companies also offer what is called a Notice of Default List, a Notice of Trustee Sale List, and a Trustee’s Deed List. If you call a title company like First American, Fidelity, or Lawyers Title and ask for customer service, you should be able to ask for their list.

A Realtor will have lists of REO (foreclosed) homes available to them through the MLS system that have been placed on the market by the banks. If you call one they can arrange to take you out to the homes and open them up for you.

Is the real estate tax listed in listings, per month, per year, or per quarter?

October 232010

I’m looking to buy a new home but I’m not entirely sure if the taxes shown on the listing are per year or per month, etc.

taxes are based on the new purchase price of the home. you can google your state and county property tax rate.
